A constable from Uttar Pradesh has been arrested for allegedly threatening to kidnap and kill a family member unless he received ₹1 crore, police officials reported on Sunday. Aziz Gautam, who was stationed at the district prison, reportedly made the threats on August 5 against Anuj (21), the son of Ramkumar Gautam, a relative of his.
According to Jaint SHO Ashwani Kumar, Aziz Gautam devised the extortion scheme after learning that Ramkumar was about to receive over ₹2 crore from a land deal. The constable was apprehended near his residence in Madhera village with a country-made pistol and ammunition.
Authorities had previously arrested three of Aziz’s accomplices in Chhatapur, Madhya Pradesh, in connection with the case. The police continue to investigate the matter and are coordinating with other agencies to address the situation comprehensively.
