An unknown person has donated Rs 160 crore to the Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai (IIT). This donation amount will be used for setting up the Green Energy and Sustainability Research Hub. This will help in tackling climate challenges with the help of modern technologies.
Confirming this, the Director of IIT Bombay, Subhashish Chowdhary said that the person who donated this has not made his identity public. The anonymous donor is an alumnus of the same IIT. Chowdhary pointed out that IIT, Mumbai ranks third in the list of top engineering colleges in India. In terms of global performance, it has been ranked 149th in the QS World University Rankings 2023-24. IIT Mumbai is considered to be among the top for campus placement and faculty. For this reason, the alumni of this institution keep helping the institution by donating from time to time.
Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani has also donated Rs 400 crore to IIT, Mumbai twice so far. He donated Rs 315 crore to IIT, Mumbai in the month of June last year. Earlier he had donated Rs 85 crore to IIT, Mumbai. Nandan Nilekani joined IIT Bombay in 1973 for a degree in Electrical Engineering. Today, even after reaching the top position, Nandan Nilekani says that the institution called IIT is the basis of his life. For this reason, he is ready to provide all kinds of help to IIT, Mumbai.
