Simultaneously, actor and CPI (M) MLA Mukesh, along with other Malayalam film industry figures, faces allegations of sexual harassment following the release of the Justice Hema Committee report. These developments have sparked widespread controversy and call for accountability within the Malayalam film industry.

  • The incident occurred when mediapersons questioned Suresh Gopi about the Hema Committee report and allegations against CPI (M) MLA Mukesh.
  • The Hema Committee report has led to several women from the Malayalam film industry coming forward with allegations of sexual harassment.
  • Actor-politician M Mukesh was booked on August 29 following a complaint by actress Minu Muneer; another FIR was registered against actor Jayasurya based on the same complaint.
  • The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has taken statements from the victims, and Ernakulam SP G Poonguzhali confirmed that legal action is underway.
  • Actress Sonia Malhar has also spoken out about mistreatment and exploitation in the Malayalam film industry.
  • Following the controversy, actor Mohanlal and all executive members resigned from their positions in the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) on August 27.
  • There is increasing pressure within the AMMA for members facing allegations of sexual harassment to resign from key positions to maintain the association’s integrity.
