Haryana police have apprehended two individuals in connection with the assault on a Sikh man in Kaithal, who reported being attacked and labelled a “Khalistani” by the perpetrators. The incident occurred on Monday evening, prompting the Kaithal police to form a dedicated five-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the matter thoroughly.
Superintendent of Police Upasana informed reporters in Kaithal that the arrested individuals are Ishu from Singwal village in Jind and Sunil from Shergarh village. Both suspects, approximately 30 years old, were apprehended in Pega village of Jind district. Ishu, involved in finance, has prior cases under the Arms Act, while Sunil works as a taxi driver, according to preliminary police findings.
The arrests were made following extensive inputs gathered by the SIT, which acted swiftly after the incident was reported. Earlier, the police had announced a reward of ₹10,000 for information leading to the arrest of the accused.
The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), Congress, and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) have strongly condemned the assault, urging immediate and stringent action against the perpetrators.
According to the victim’s police complaint, the altercation began when he was waiting at a railway-level crossing in Kaithal. Upon the opening of the crossing gates, a dispute ensued between the victim and two motorcycle-borne assailants, leading to a physical confrontation.
In his statement to reporters on Tuesday, the victim, who sustained injuries requiring hospitalization, recounted, “They abused me and called me a Khalistani. One person got down from the motorcycle and hit me with bricks.”
The incident has sparked widespread outrage, with calls for justice and measures to curb such acts of violence and discrimination.
