The Trinamool Congress (TMC) is set to stage protests across West Bengal on Saturday, demanding the death penalty for the accused in the Kolkata rape-murder case and calling for stricter laws for crimes against women.
Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced a seven-day dharna in response to the state government’s handling of the case. The party has accused Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of displaying a dictatorial attitude toward protesting students and attempting to evade responsibility for the rape-murder incident.
Multiple protests are expected across the state as the political blame game between the Centre and the state government continues.

An arterial road in northern Kolkata was blocked for nearly five hours on Saturday after a motorcycle-borne man allegedly entered a barricaded area where a night vigil was being held for justice in the rape-murder of a doctor, according to the police. The motorcycle was reportedly marked with a police sticker.
Speaking to News18, junior doctor Mohammad Arif said, “We have planned to provide treatment to people, which is why we have started telemedicine for the poor. Abhaya died struggling, which is why we have named it Abhaya Clinic.”
Junior doctors have launched telemedicine services for patients on Saturday. Additionally, they will organize a special Abhaya Clinic every Sunday.
Doctors from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi will organize a protest at Jantar Mantar in the national capital on Saturday afternoon. They are calling on fellow medical professionals to join them in highlighting the plight of the RG Kar victim and demanding justice.
