Incumbent Congress MP Shashi Tharoor is leading by 1,920 votes in the early trends for the Thiruvananthapuram lok sabha seat. Shashi Tharoor, a former UN diplomat, has held the seat since 2009. This election sees him up against Union Minister and BJP leader Rajeev Chandrasekhar.
According to exit poll, Rajeev Chandrasekhar holds an advantage over Shashi Tharoor. The BJP, which has never won a Lok Sabha seat in Kerala, is aiming to establish a foothold in the coastal state.
The counting of votes commenced at 8 AM. Historically, the Lok Sabha contest in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala’s most populous city, has been dominated by the Congress and the Communist Party of India (Marxist). However, the BJP has gained prominence in recent elections.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Shashi Tharoor achieved a hat-trick victory with 416,131 votes, while BJP candidate Kummanam Rajashekharan secured the second position with 316,142 votes.
