In a tragic incident in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district, terrorists forced local villagers at gunpoint to prepare food before launching an ambush on an Army convoy, resulting in the deaths of five personnel, as per sources briefed by India Today TV.
The attackers, equipped with body cameras, aimed to seize weapons from the Army personnel but were thwarted by the soldiers’ courage despite sustaining injuries, sources revealed. The ambush occurred on the remote Machedi-Kindli-Malhar mountainous road near Badnota village.
This attack marks the fifth instance of terrorism in the Jammu region within a month, targeting areas with limited security and challenging road access for reinforcements, according to sources.
Security agencies have intensified investigations, detaining over 20 suspects for questioning. The deceased soldiers were identified as JCO Anant Singh, Head Constable Kamal Rawat, soldier Anuj Negi, Rifleman Adarsh Negi, and NK Kumar.
Earlier reports suggested the involvement of Pakistani terrorists using sophisticated weapons like M4 Carbine rifles and explosives, indicating a well-planned and coordinated assault with possible local assistance.
In response, the Defence Ministry assured that the sacrifice of the soldiers would be avenged, with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh emphasizing the soldiers’ dedication to maintaining peace in the region.
