The Gautam Buddh Nagar Disaster Management Department has issued a detailed heatwave advisory following impact-based weather forecasts released by the India Meteorological Department and the Lucknow weather center. Authorities have urged residents to take necessary precautions to protect themselves from extreme heat conditions expected in the coming days.

Officials warned that rising temperatures and heatwave conditions could pose serious health risks, especially for children, elderly people, pregnant women, and individuals working outdoors. The administration has appealed to the public to strictly follow safety guidelines to avoid heat-related illnesses such as dehydration, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke.

Residents Advised to Take Precautions While Stepping Outside

According to the advisory, people should carry umbrellas, caps, scarves, and drinking water whenever stepping outside during daytime hours. The department recommended wearing light-colored, full-sleeved cotton clothes to reduce direct exposure to sunlight and hot winds.

People working outdoors for long durations have been advised to regularly use wet cloths on the face, head, and neck to help maintain body temperature. Officials said such preventive measures can significantly reduce the impact of extreme heat on the human body.

Health experts have also emphasized the importance of staying hydrated throughout the day, as prolonged exposure to heat can rapidly reduce the body’s water levels.

Fresh Food and Hydration Recommended

The advisory encourages residents to consume fresh and light meals during the heatwave period. Seasonal fruits and vegetables such as cucumber, watermelon, and muskmelon have been recommended due to their high water content and cooling properties.

Authorities have advised people to drink sufficient liquids including buttermilk, lemon water, salted sugar solution, mango panna, sugarcane juice, and lassi to maintain hydration and replenish essential minerals lost through sweating.

The administration also advised residents to avoid stale food, oily and spicy meals, and excessive consumption of tea and coffee. Alcohol consumption has also been discouraged, as it may increase dehydration risks during extreme heat conditions.

Do Not Ignore Symptoms of Heat Stroke

The Disaster Management Department stated that symptoms such as dizziness, anxiety, headache, vomiting, body weakness, muscle cramps, fever, lack of sweating, and unconsciousness should not be ignored during a heatwave.

In such situations, affected individuals should immediately be moved to a shaded or cool area. Authorities advised loosening tight clothing, using fans or coolers if available, and washing the face and head with cool water. If the person is conscious, they should be given cold water and made to lie down with elevated legs.

Residents have also been advised to contact the nearest health center or use the 108 ambulance service in case of emergency medical conditions.

Advisory Against Afternoon Outdoor Activities

The administration has specifically advised people to avoid unnecessary outdoor movement between 12 pm and 3 pm, which is considered the hottest period of the day. Exposure to direct sunlight during these hours significantly increases the risk of heat-related illnesses.

Authorities also warned against leaving children or pets alone inside parked vehicles, as temperatures inside closed vehicles can rise rapidly and become life-threatening within minutes.

With temperatures continuing to rise across the district, officials have appealed to residents to remain alert and follow all issued guidelines to minimize health risks associated with the ongoing heatwave conditions.
