A tragic incident has come to light from Agra, where a Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) employee, Manav Sharma, ended his life, allegedly due to harassment by his wife. Sharma, who worked as a recruitment manager at TCS in Mumbai, was found hanging in his residence on February 24. His family claimed that their attempts to lodge a complaint with the police were initially ignored due to Maha Shivratri duties, prompting them to escalate the matter to the Chief Minister’s portal. It was only after a complaint was sent via WhatsApp that the police registered a case and initiated an investigation.
Before taking the extreme step, Sharma recorded a nearly seven-minute-long emotional video, in which he broke down and urged people to acknowledge the struggles faced by men. In the video, he blamed his wife for his distress, pleaded for awareness about men’s mental health, and apologized to his parents. He described his pain, stating that his wife had been unfaithful and that he felt cornered. With a cloth wrapped around his neck, he spoke about his suffering, expressing that men often feel lonely and unheard in relationships. He made a heartfelt appeal to authorities, stating that laws should protect men as well, warning that if the system remains biased, there would come a time when men would no longer be left to blame.
Sharma revealed that he had previously attempted suicide multiple times and showed scars on his wrists as evidence of his past struggles. In his final words, he urged people to think about the men in their lives and not overlook their emotional battles.
His father, Narendra Kumar Sharma, a retired Air Force officer, disclosed that Manav’s marriage had been troubled from the start. He alleged that his son’s wife frequently threatened to file false cases against him, which led to emotional distress. A day before his death, Manav had traveled from Mumbai to Agra with his wife and left her at her parents’ home before returning alone. His family believes these ongoing conflicts pushed him to take the drastic step.
Meanwhile, Manav’s wife, Nikita Sharma, has presented a different version of events. She claimed that her past was being unfairly held against her and that Manav became increasingly dependent on alcohol after learning about it. According to her, she had saved him from suicide on multiple occasions, but his mental health continued to deteriorate. She also alleged that her in-laws ignored her concerns and later blamed her entirely for his death.
The Agra Police, who have recovered Sharma’s video message, have yet to make any arrests. A post-mortem was conducted, and officials confirmed that Manav died by hanging. While authorities acknowledge that his troubled relationship may have contributed to his decision, the investigation remains ongoing. The case has sparked discussions on mental health and the need to address emotional abuse in marriages, particularly concerning the legal and societal treatment of men’s grievances. As the probe continues, Sharma’s family seeks justice, while his tragic demise raises broader questions about support systems for those battling emotional distress.
