American pop star Taylor Swift announced her endorsement of Democratic candidate Kamala Harris in the upcoming 2024 U.S. presidential election. Swift voiced her support following Harris’ first debate with Republican nominee Donald Trump, praising Harris as a “warrior” and advocating for her leadership.
In a social media post on Instagram, Swift wrote, “I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 presidential election.” She expressed her belief in Harris’ leadership, stating, “I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them. I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader, and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos.”
Swift encouraged her followers to research their options and emphasized the importance of voter registration, particularly for first-time voters. She ended her post with a lighthearted nod to a previous remark made by Trump’s running mate, JD Vance, signing off as “Taylor Swift, childless cat lady.” This was in reference to comments made by Vance in 2021, where he criticized “childless cat ladies” in politics, a statement that drew widespread attention recently.
Swift’s post also addressed a misleading claim from Trump, who had shared altered images suggesting Swift’s endorsement of his campaign. “Recently I was made aware that AI of ‘me’ falsely endorsing Donald Trump’s presidential run was posted to his site,” Swift clarified. She expressed concern about the misuse of AI and the dangers of misinformation, stating that it reinforced her decision to be transparent about her political stance.
For much of her career, Swift refrained from making political statements. However, since 2018, she has been more outspoken, endorsing Democratic candidates and supporting causes such as women’s rights, reproductive health, and LGBTQ+ issues. She has also been a vocal critic of Trump’s policies.
Swift’s influence, especially among young women—a key demographic in the Harris campaign—remains significant. Her endorsement is expected to energize her followers and draw attention to the Democratic ticket as the election approaches.
