Tamil Nadu BJP President K Annamalai has accused the Congress of hypocrisy regarding its stance on industrialists Mukesh Ambani and Gautam Adani, labeling the duo as a “dirty word” for the party.
Announcing his remarks, K Annamalai highlighted the Congress’s narrative against industrialists since 2019, emphasizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent accusation that the party had a “deal” with Ambani and Adani. He urged the Congress to disclose the amount of money it had received from these industrialists, whom it had vilified for an extended period.
During his campaign in Telangana, PM Modi questioned the sudden silence of the Congress on the issue, speculating whether the party had received significant sums of “black money” from Ambani and Adani. This shift in narrative was interpreted as a strategic move by the BJP to counter the Congress’s longstanding criticism of the government’s alleged favoritism towards industrialists.
Reacting sharply to PM Modi’s comments, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi challenged him to initiate investigations by the CBI or ED into whether Adani and Ambani had funnelled illicit funds to the party. Rahul Gandhi’s response was delivered in a video message, wherein he accused PM Modi of previously discussing Ambani and Adani in private and questioned the source of his knowledge regarding their purported financial transactions.
The ongoing exchange underscores the deep-seated political rivalry between the BJP and the Congress, with each party attempting to gain an upper hand in shaping public perception ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
