Sanitation workers, transgenders, and labourers who contributed to the Central Vista Project will be among the distinguished guests attending Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s swearing-in ceremony this weekend, reliable sources disclosed on Friday. Railway employees associated with the Vande Bharat and Metro trains, along with beneficiaries of various central government initiatives, have also been extended invitations as “Viksit Bharat ambassadors” to grace PM Modi’s third oath-taking ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Sunday evening.
Preparations are underway to host over 8,000 guests at Rashtrapati Bhavan, as per reports.
Narendra Modi, having secured a record third term as Prime Minister following the victory of the BJP-led NDA coalition in the recent Lok Sabha elections, will take the oath of office on Sunday. His selection as the leader of the BJP and its allies was formally announced in a crucial meeting held in Delhi shortly after the election results were declared.
Distinguished South Asian leaders, including Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe, have confirmed their attendance at the ceremony. Invitations have also been extended to Nepal Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, Bhutan Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay, and Mauritius Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth.
The ceremony is reminiscent of PM Modi’s previous oath-taking events, with leaders from various South Asian nations attending. In 2014, SAARC leaders graced PM Modi’s first swearing-in, while BIMSTEC leaders were present in 2019.
PM Modi’s reelection in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls saw the BJP’s parliamentary strength reduce to 240 seats from its earlier count of 303 in 2019. However, the BJP-led NDA, which secured 352 constituencies in 2019, retains a majority with 293 seats.
PM Modi and the BJP are depending on their coalition partners to form the government. Notable among these are Chandrababu Naidu’s Telugu Desam Party with 16 seats and Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal United with 12 seats.
