Bahraich (UP), Mar 23 2025 : A 54-year-old South Korean woman has been arrested at the Indo-Nepal border in Uttar Pradesh for allegedly entering India illegally. Identified as Park Seryeon, also known as Yogsuk, she was caught by a joint team of SSB and UP Police while attempting to cross into India without valid documents. Authorities seized her passport, laptop, Nepalese SIM card, and other items, sparking an investigation into her background and possible links to a religious group. Security agencies have alerted the South Korean embassy as they probe the motive behind her unauthorized entry.
According to Additional Superintendent of Police (Rural) Durga Prasad Tewari, the foreign national was intercepted at approximately 11 PM on Saturday near Seemant Inter College in Rupaidiha. Upon verification, she was identified as 54-year-old Park Seryeon, also known as Yogsuk, a resident of Seoul, South Korea. Officials stated that she had altered her name while attempting to cross into India without proper documentation.
During initial interrogation, the woman was unable to provide valid travel documents, leading the authorities to suspect illegal entry. As a result, a case was registered against her under the Foreigners Act at Rupaidiha police station, following which she was taken into custody.
The joint team also confiscated several items from her possession, including her South Korean passport, a laptop, a mobile phone containing a Nepalese SIM card, Nepali currency, and other documents. These items are now being examined as part of the ongoing investigation.
Commandant Ganga Singh Udavat of SSB’s 42nd Battalion stated that preliminary inquiries suggest Park Seryeon may have ties to the Church of God (World Mission Society), a religious organization. Authorities are currently probing her background and the purpose of her visit.
The case has raised concerns about security along the Indo-Nepal border, which has been used in the past for unauthorized entries. Security forces remain on high alert to prevent such incidents and are coordinating efforts to ensure strict monitoring of border activities.
Officials have also reached out to the South Korean embassy for further information regarding the detained individual. The embassy is expected to provide clarification on her identity and legal status.
Meanwhile, authorities are continuing their investigation to determine whether the woman had any local contacts or specific objectives for her visit to India. Additional details are expected to emerge as the inquiry progresses.
