On August 19, authorities in South Delhi faced another bomb threat scare when three prominent malls and a hospital received emails warning of imminent explosions. The facilities affected included Chanakya Mall in Chanakyapuri, Select Citywalk in Saket, Ambience Mall in Vasant Kunj, and Primus Hospital, also in Chanakyapuri. This incident follows a similar hoax threat reported earlier at Ambience Mall in Gurugram.
The bomb threat emails claimed that explosives would detonate within hours. In response, the Delhi Police and fire department teams swiftly launched extensive search operations at the affected locations. Despite the urgency of the situation, no explosives were found during the thorough inspections.
The scare at South Delhi’s high-profile locations led to the immediate evacuation of shoppers, staff, and patients, disrupting normal activities. The swift response was aimed at ensuring public safety and preventing potential harm in case the threat was genuine.
This recent incident follows a troubling pattern of bomb threats in the region. On August 17, a similar threat was made against Ambience Mall in Gurugram. The mall was evacuated and searched, but no bombs were found, indicating that the threat was a hoax. On the same day, DLF Mall of India in Noida was also evacuated, but this was later revealed to be a mock drill intended to test the mall’s security measures.
Earlier in the month, on August 2, a school in Greater Kailash received an email bomb threat as well. Authorities responded by conducting a thorough investigation, but no explosive devices were discovered.
The recurrent nature of these hoax threats has raised concerns about the strain on emergency services and the potential for causing unnecessary panic among the public. The Delhi Police have intensified their efforts to track down those responsible for these false alarms.
