The official trailer for Ananya Panday’s highly anticipated OTT debut series, Call Me Bae, premiered on August 20, generating buzz across social media. Produced by Dharmatic Entertainment, the comedy-drama series also features Vir Das, Varun Sood, Muskkan Jafferi, and Vihaan Samat in significant roles. The show is set to stream on Prime Video starting September 6.
Call Me Bae follows the story of Bella (Bae) Chowdhary, a South Delhi heiress whose opulent lifestyle takes a dramatic turn when she is disowned by her family. The narrative tracks her transition from a life of luxury to the gritty realities of Mumbai. The trailer opens with a glimpse into Bae’s extravagant world in New Delhi, showcasing her high-society existence. This world is shattered when Bae faces a sudden fall from grace, prompting a shift to the bustling streets of Mumbai where she must navigate life independently.
The trailer highlights Bae’s efforts to adapt to her new circumstances, capturing her experiences from using public transportation to grappling with the challenges of working as a journalist. Accompanied by upbeat music, the trailer paints a picture of a heartwarming and lighthearted journey as Bae strives to rebuild her life on her own terms.
Karan Johar, who shared the trailer on Instagram, commented, “Amidst the hustle and bustle of Mumbai, will this South Delhi heiress find her way in? Now, that’s the drama we all want!” The series promises a mix of drama and comedy, focusing on Bae’s resilience and personal growth.
Ananya Panday, reflecting on her OTT debut, expressed her enthusiasm for the project, stating, “From the get-go, I knew Call Me Bae was a project I wanted to be a part of. Even without having heard the script, I knew this was going to be something special. As an actor, it is always exciting and rewarding to play a multi-layered character like Bae. There’s more to Bae than what meets the eye and that is what makes her journey from heiress to hustler, compelling and intriguing.”
She continued, “Despite the challenges she faces, she (Bae) remains true to herself, retaining her innocence and zest for life. This authenticity is what drew me to the role. This is my first long format original series and I couldn’t have asked for a better director than Collin or a more supportive cast. I am thrilled to be collaborating with Prime Video and Dharmatic Entertainment for the series, and I’m looking forward to introducing Bae to audiences worldwide from September 6.”
