Congress leader Supriya Shrinate addressed the backlash faced by newlyweds Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal after they disabled comments on their wedding post on Instagram. The couple tied the knot in a civil ceremony on June 23 in Mumbai, surrounded by close friends and family.
Supriya Shrinate, commenting on the situation, expressed disappointment over the negativity aimed at the couple. “Two people in love, together for over 7 years, disable comments to avoid hate,” she wrote on her official ‘X’ account, extending her best wishes for their future happiness.
Zaheer Iqbal’s father, Iqbal Ratnasi, clarified that the wedding had no religious rituals and emphasized that Sonakshi would not be converting to Islam. “It will be a civil marriage. She is not converting, and that is for sure. Their union is beyond religion,” he stated, advocating for unity and humanity.
Following the civil ceremony, Sonakshi and Zaheer hosted a celebration at Bastian, Mumbai, attended by Bollywood personalities including Salman Khan, Kajol, Rekha, Siddharth, Aditi Rao Hydari, and Tabu.
The disabling of comments on their wedding post coincides with ongoing criticism and scrutiny online, prompting discussions on social media etiquette and respect for personal choices.
