Adele has announced she will be taking an extended break from music after completing her current series of concerts, as reported by the BBC. The acclaimed singer expressed her need for a hiatus in an interview with German broadcaster ZDF, stating, “My tank is quite empty at the minute.” She added, “I don’t have any plans for new music at all. I want a big break after all this and I think I want to do other creative things just for a little while.”
During the interview, Adele revealed that she doesn’t even sing at home, emphasizing her need for a break from music. “You know, I don’t even sing at home at all. How strange is that?” she said.
Adele’s last album, “30,” was released in 2021. Following its release, she has spent two years performing a weekend residency at Las Vegas’s Caesar’s Palace, which recently saw her complete her 90th show. The residency, held at the 4,000-seat venue, is set to conclude in November. Reflecting on the experience, Adele described it as emotionally exhausting. “Even though it’s a very manageable size of crowd, it’s really been an emotional exchange,” she noted. “I’m sure I’ll feel even more like [that] every night after the shows in Munich. But it’s a positive thing. It’s just such an exchange of energy.”
In June, Adele made headlines for rebuking an audience member who shouted “Pride sucks” during one of her shows. “Did you come to my… show and just say that Pride sucks?” she retorted. “Don’t be so… ridiculous. If you have nothing nice to say, shut up, all right?” Discussing the incident with ZDF, Adele admitted she is easily riled up, stating, “Everything makes me angry. Absolutely everything. I’m 36 years old. I’m old and grumpy now.”
Adele’s upcoming shows in Munich will be on a much larger scale compared to her Las Vegas residency, with 74,000 fans expected to attend each night in a specially constructed “pop-up” stadium.
“30,” Adele’s most recent album, released in November 2021, topped the UK and US charts, becoming the biggest-selling album of the year in the US after just one day on sale, according to the Guardian.
