Congress MP Shashi Tharoor expressed optimism about Priyanka Gandhi’s prospective role in the Lok Sabha, emphasizing that her presence would bolster the opposition benches and provide strong representation for Wayanad. Speaking to PTI during his campaign in Neyyattinkara Assembly constituency, Shashi Tharoor highlighted Priyanka Gandhi’s effective oratory skills observed during election campaigns, particularly noting her decision to enter electoral politics from Kerala.
Shashi Tharoor commended Rahul Gandhi’s decision to retain Rae Bareli while entrusting Wayanad to his sister, calling it a strategic move that ensures continued representation for both constituencies. He reiterated his support for this decision, applauding Rahul Gandhi’s choice amid the necessity to choose between the two constituencies.
Reflecting on Priyanka Gandhi’s potential, Shashi Tharoor remarked that she could have been a formidable candidate in Varanasi, considering the performance of the Congress candidate against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He expressed confidence that Priyanka Gandhi’s victory in Wayanad would bring a strong voice to Parliament, underscoring her impactful presence as a speaker and campaigner.
Tharoor also addressed criticism of ‘parivarvaad’ (dynastic politics), arguing that familial succession is commonplace across professions in Indian culture, including politics. He pointed out the prevalence of political legacies across various parties, including the BJP.
Regarding the performance of Thiruvananthapuram district Congress leaders during his election campaign, Shashi Tharoor clarified that he had not filed any complaint with the AICC, attributing the electoral success to collective efforts by party workers.
