Multiple schools in Delhi were on high alert after receiving bomb threat emails on Wednesday. Authorities confirmed that prominent schools such as Delhi Public School in Vasant Vihar and RK Puram, Blue Bells, and Tagore International were among those targeted. The emails alleged the presence of explosives on their premises, causing panic and disruption among students, parents, and staff.
According to Delhi Police, the threats are being taken seriously and a thorough investigation has been launched. Preliminary analysis suggests similarities between these threats and earlier hoax emails that targeted schools in the city. Despite this, officials are leaving no stone unturned to ensure safety and maintain public order.
The emails sent to these schools were alarming in tone and content. One email explicitly mentioned “massive and highly dangerous explosives” planted in multiple locations on the school premises. It further claimed that the lack of strict security measures, particularly bag checks, had provided an opportunity for this act.
The sender appeared to have specific knowledge about the internal operations of the schools, including exam schedules and student movements. The email detailed that during examination hours, while some students would be inside classrooms, others would be on the school field or moving around the campus. It ominously stated that staff would remain unaware of the explosives allegedly planted in key locations.
Parents and guardians, upon hearing the news, rushed to the affected schools, demanding clarity and assurance regarding their children’s safety. Several schools, as a precaution, suspended operations and evacuated students. Bomb disposal squads and forensic teams were deployed to the locations to conduct comprehensive searches.
This is not the first time Delhi schools have been targeted with such threats. In December last year, more than a hundred schools received similar bomb threat emails. On December 14, a private school student was identified by the Delhi Police Special Cell as the perpetrator behind a hoax email sent to a school in Paschim Vihar. Two days later, on December 17, several other schools in the city were subjected to bomb threat emails.
One of the most significant incidents occurred on December 13 last year, when a staggering 30 schools across Delhi were targeted with hoax bomb threats. Despite these earlier threats being false alarms, the psychological impact on students, parents, and teachers has been immense. Many parents expressed frustration, stating that such incidents disrupt not only academic schedules but also the mental well-being of children.
In light of these recurring threats, schools have been urged to strengthen security measures. Authorities have emphasized the importance of rigorous bag checks, CCTV monitoring, and immediate reporting of suspicious activities. The police are also exploring technical avenues to trace the origin of the emails, working closely with cybercrime experts.
Experts suggest that such threats, even when they turn out to be hoaxes, can cause long-lasting fear and anxiety. Educational institutions are particularly vulnerable targets as they involve children, making any threat a matter of grave concern.
The Delhi Police have assured the public that every effort is being made to identify and apprehend those responsible for these emails. Meanwhile, the schools have been asked to remain vigilant and take proactive measures to ensure the safety of students and staff.
As investigations continue, the police are also examining whether there could be a larger pattern or motive behind these threats. While the majority of such incidents in the past have been linked to pranks or hoaxes, authorities are treating the situation with utmost seriousness to avoid complacency in case of a genuine threat.
The repeated targeting of schools has sparked discussions about the need for enhanced cybersecurity and stricter penalties for individuals engaging in such activities. Parents and school authorities are calling for swift action to bring the perpetrators to justice and prevent similar incidents in the future.
Delhi’s educational institutions, while known for their excellence, now face the dual challenge of maintaining academic integrity and ensuring a safe environment for learning.
