The US Secret Service has approved a new security plan for Republican presidential candidate Former US President Donald Trump, which includes the use of bulletproof glass at outdoor rallies, according to a report by the Washington Post. This decision follows an assassination attempt on July 13, during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
The agency’s decision comes as a response to the July shooting incident, which raised significant concerns about security measures. The suspect, 20-year-old Thomas Crooks, managed to gain access to a rooftop with a clear line of sight to Former US President Donald Trump’s speaking area. The Secret Service has faced intense scrutiny over this lapse, leading to the resignation of its chief in the wake of the attack.
In addition to bulletproof glass, the Secret Service is deploying other advanced security measures that have not traditionally been provided for presidential candidates. This heightened security comes after Former US President Donald Trump insisted on continuing his outdoor rallies despite the risk.
The assassination attempt resulted in the death of a rally attendee and injuries to two others. Crooks was shot and killed by a Secret Service agent after opening fire. The FBI is still investigating the motive behind the attack.
Following the attack, the Secret Service initially recommended that Former US President Donald Trump refrain from large outdoor events. However, Former US President Donald Trump has expressed his intention to persist with such rallies and stated that the Secret Service had committed to significantly enhancing its protective measures.
