Salim Khan, one of the most influential screenwriters in the history of Hindi cinema, is currently under medical supervision at Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai following a brain haemorrhage. Hospital authorities confirmed that Salim Khan was brought to the emergency department on Tuesday morning at approximately 8:30 AM. A specialised medical team was formed immediately to assess and stabilise his condition. The team includes neurologist Dr. Vinay Chavan, cardiologist Dr. Ajit Menon, neurosurgeon Dr. Nitin Dange, and Dr. Bineet Ahluwalia. On Wednesday, pulmonologist Dr. Jalil Parker shared that Salim Khan had undergone Digital Subtraction Angiography, commonly referred to as cerebral angiography, a diagnostic imaging procedure used to detect blockages in blood vessels.

Doctors clarified that the procedure was not brain surgery but a high-resolution diagnostic evaluation. Following the procedure, Salim Khan was kept under close observation. Medical officials stated that he would not be discharged immediately and would remain under supervision for several days. His condition was described as stable, and doctors indicated signs of recovery.

However, subsequent reports suggest that Salman Khan has requested hospital authorities to refrain from issuing further public health updates. The decision reportedly reflects the family’s desire for privacy during a sensitive time.

Medical Condition, Family Presence and Industry Visits

For three consecutive days, Salman Khan was seen arriving at Lilavati Hospital to visit his father. Several other family members also gathered at the facility, including Arbaaz Khan, Sohail Khan, Helen, Arhaan Khan, Ayaan, and other close relatives. Their presence highlighted the seriousness of the situation and the family’s united front during the medical crisis.

Prominent film personalities also visited the hospital to inquire about Salim Khan’s health. Among them were Aamir Khan, who was accompanied by Gauri, and Shilpa Shetty along with her mother Sunanda Shetty. Their visits underscored the respect Salim Khan commands within the industry.

Actor Chitrangada Singh, who is set to appear alongside Salman Khan in the upcoming film Battle of Galwan, expressed optimism about Salim Khan’s recovery. She stated that he was improving and conveyed her wishes for his good health.

Sources from the hospital administration confirmed that Salim Khan was placed on ventilator support as a precautionary measure following complications related to the haemorrhage. Brain haemorrhage in elderly patients can pose significant risks, requiring intensive monitoring to manage potential neurological complications.

The medical team continues to evaluate neurological responses, cardiovascular stability, and respiratory support requirements. According to medical experts, Digital Subtraction Angiography is often conducted to identify vascular irregularities, clots, or ruptures that may have caused bleeding in the brain.

The Legacy of Salim Khan and the Salim–Javed Era

Salim Khan was born on November 24, 1935, and began his career in the 1960s as an actor. Initially appearing in small roles, he soon realised that his strength lay in storytelling rather than performance. After nearly two dozen acting assignments, he transitioned to screenwriting.

During his early acting years, he adopted the screen name Prince Salim. However, his true recognition came when he formed the legendary writing partnership with Javed Akhtar. The duo, popularly known as Salim–Javed, transformed the landscape of Hindi cinema.

Together, they penned some of the most iconic films in Indian cinematic history, including Zanjeer, Deewar, Sholay, Don, and Seeta Aur Geeta. Their narratives introduced intense character arcs, socially rooted conflicts, and powerful dialogue-driven storytelling. The emergence of the “angry young man” persona in mainstream cinema is widely credited to their writing, particularly in shaping Amitabh Bachchan’s on-screen image.

Salim–Javed are regarded as the first screenwriters in Indian cinema to achieve star status. At a time when writers received limited public recognition, their names became central to film promotion. Their success altered industry dynamics, elevating the importance of storytelling in commercial cinema.

Salim Khan’s influence extended beyond box office success. His scripts reflected socio-political tensions of the era, urban struggles, generational conflicts, and themes of justice. His writing style combined emotional intensity with sharp dialogue, leaving a lasting imprint on narrative structure in Hindi films.

Personal Life and Family Background

Salim Khan married Salma Khan in 1964, and the couple had four children: Salman Khan, Arbaaz Khan, Sohail Khan, and Alvira Khan. In 1981, he married Helen, a celebrated actress and dancer. The family later adopted Arpita.

His sons went on to establish significant careers in the film industry. Salman Khan became one of the most commercially successful actors in contemporary Hindi cinema. Arbaaz Khan and Sohail Khan pursued acting, production, and direction. Alvira Khan married actor-director Atul Agnihotri, while Arpita married actor Aayush Sharma.

The current health crisis has brought the extended family together at Lilavati Hospital, reflecting the close-knit nature of the Khan household.

As Salim Khan remains under observation, the film industry continues to express solidarity and hope for his recovery. His contributions to cinema span over five decades, making him one of the foundational figures in modern Hindi storytelling.
