Following India’s remarkable victory in the Champions Trophy final against New Zealand, celebrations have erupted across the country as the team prepares to return home from Dubai. While cricket fans eagerly await Team India’s arrival, Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar faction) leader and Maharashtra Cricket Association president Rohit Pawar has put forward a significant demand to the International Cricket Council and the Board of Control for Cricket in India.
Rohit Pawar has urged that the Champions Trophy be brought to Mumbai and that a grand victory rally be organized to celebrate Team India’s success. He has insisted that the team deserves a hero’s welcome in Mumbai and has stated that he will formally write to both the Board of Control for Cricket in India and the International Cricket Council regarding this matter. According to him, Maharashtra, particularly Mumbai or Pune, should once again witness such a golden moment in Indian cricket history. He assured that Maharashtra is fully prepared to welcome the Indian team in a grand manner.
Taking to social media platform X, Rohit Pawar congratulated Team India for securing their third Champions Trophy title and made an appeal to International Cricket Council chairman Jay Shah and Board of Control for Cricket in India president Roger Binny. In his post, he emphasized that as per tradition, the Champions Trophy should be made available for cricket fans in Mumbai and Pune to witness and celebrate. He further urged the officials to allow the trophy to be displayed in these cities, giving fans the opportunity to see and celebrate India’s victory up close.
The demand for a grand reception in Mumbai is inspired by the historic celebrations that took place when India won the T20 World Cup. Upon their return, the Indian team was given a royal welcome in Mumbai, where a massive victory parade was organized. Members of the team traveled on an open-top bus as thousands of fans lined the streets, cheering and celebrating their triumph. The parade, which began at Marine Drive and ended at Wankhede Stadium, saw an overwhelming response, with over three lakh people gathering to witness the historic moment. The excitement was so intense that fans climbed trees and buildings just to catch a glimpse of their favorite players.
Given the precedent of the T20 World Cup victory parade, if a similar event is planned for the Champions Trophy, Mumbai is expected to witness another massive turnout. Cricket lovers in Maharashtra are hopeful that the Board of Control for Cricket in India and International Cricket Council will consider Rohit Pawar’s appeal and bring the Champions Trophy celebrations to Mumbai, allowing fans to relive another unforgettable cricketing moment.
