New Delhi, 6 September (HS) : The Supreme Court has given relief to the Editors Guild in the Manipur case. A bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud has stayed the arrest of senior journalists and editors of the Editors Guild until September 11.
Advocate Shyam Dewan, appearing for the Editors Guild, said that an FIR has been lodged against senior journalists and editors for terming the local news report on the situation in Manipur as biased. Then the Chief Justice said, What is such an emergency? Why didn’t you go to the High Court? You came to the Supreme Court under Article 32.
Shyam Diwan told the court that the Editors Guild had sent four members to Manipur for fact-finding. He gave the report on September 2. Two FIRs were registered on this. We fear arrest. A four-member fact-finding committee of the Editors Guild said that local news reports on the situation in Manipur were biased. Manipur Police has registered an FIR regarding this.
