Ranveer Singh and director Aditya Dhar’s highly anticipated film Dhurandhar: The Revenge has already made a strong impact at the box office even before its official theatrical release. The film has earned around ₹27.13 crore through paid preview screenings, marking one of the biggest pre-release earnings records in Hindi cinema. The massive response from audiences across the country indicates the extraordinary buzz surrounding the film. Advance booking trends and packed preview screenings suggest that the film may deliver a historic opening once it officially arrives in theatres.
Massive ticket sales and strong paid preview performance
Ahead of its official release, the makers organized large-scale paid preview screenings across India. On March 18, nearly 9550 preview shows were held nationwide. These shows attracted massive crowds, resulting in the sale of approximately 5.38 lakh tickets. Paid previews are typically conducted in limited numbers to gauge audience reactions before the main release, but Dhurandhar: The Revenge has seen an unusually large scale of preview screenings and audience turnout. In major metropolitan cities, ticket prices reached premium levels due to high demand. In Mumbai, a single ticket was priced as high as ₹3100, while in Delhi it reached around ₹2400. Despite the high ticket prices, theatres witnessed strong occupancy and enthusiastic audience response. The film has earned about ₹27.13 crore from these preview screenings alone. When pre-blocked tickets and additional advance sales are included, the total pre-release earnings may rise to nearly ₹31.9 crore in India.
Surpassing major blockbuster preview records
Dhurandhar: The Revenge has already surpassed several major films in terms of paid preview earnings. Earlier, films such as They Call Him OG earned around ₹23 crore in preview shows, while Baahubali 2 collected approximately ₹22 crore. Stree 2 had earned about ₹8.5 crore through paid previews. Compared to these numbers, Dhurandhar: The Revenge has achieved nearly three times the preview earnings of Stree 2. Trade analysts believe that such strong advance numbers indicate a potentially record-breaking opening day for the film. According to film critic Taran Adarsh, the film could set a new benchmark in Hindi cinema history. Industry predictions suggest that the film might generate around ₹200 crore globally on its first day of release.
Strong international response boosts global earnings
The excitement surrounding the film is not limited to India. International markets have also shown impressive interest in the film. In North America, approximately 1765 shows have been scheduled across 690 locations. Around 67000 tickets have already been booked for these screenings. These shows have generated around 1.31 million dollars in revenue, which is approximately ₹12.12 crore. When domestic and international preview earnings are combined, the global total is estimated to reach nearly ₹60 crore even before the film’s official release. Such numbers are extremely rare for paid preview screenings and demonstrate the extraordinary demand for the film worldwide.
Success of the first film drives expectations for the sequel
The huge anticipation surrounding Dhurandhar: The Revenge is also fueled by the phenomenal success of the first film in the franchise. The original Dhurandhar performed exceptionally well at both the domestic and international box office. The film reportedly earned around ₹1303 crore worldwide. In India alone, the gross collection reached approximately ₹1005.85 crore, while the net collection stood at around ₹836.95 crore. This made it the highest-grossing Hindi single-language film in India. Overseas markets also contributed significantly to the film’s success, with international earnings reaching nearly ₹299.5 crore. Particularly strong collections came from the United States and Canada, where the film earned more than ₹193.06 crore, surpassing the record previously held by Baahubali 2. Interestingly, the film achieved this success despite not being released in several Gulf countries. Despite that restriction, the movie went on to become the highest-grossing ‘A’ rated film in Indian cinema history.
