Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor was summoned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, in connection with an alleged online betting app case. The case pertains to a money laundering probe against the founders of the Mahadev betting app, Sourabh Chandrakar and Ravi Uppal.
Kapoor has been asked to appear in front of the ED on October 6, 2023. It is not yet clear what role, if any, Kapoor played in the case. However, according to reports, the ED is investigating whether Kapoor was associated with the Mahadev betting app in any way, either directly or indirectly.
The ED has been investigating the Mahadev betting app case since last year. The agency has alleged that the app was used to launder money from illegal gambling activities. The ED has also arrested several people in connection with the case, including Chandrakar and Uppal.
Kapoor is not the first Bollywood celebrity to be summoned by the ED in connection with an online betting app case. This suggests that the agency is taking the issue of online betting and money laundering very seriously. Last year, actors Jacqueline Fernandez and Nora Fatehi were also summoned by the ED in connection with the Sukesh Chandrashekhar money laundering case.
