The District Judge Court of Sambhal has issued a notice to Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, in connection with his remarks stating that the fight is not just against the BJP or RSS but against the Indian state. The court has directed him to either submit a response or appear in person on April 4.
This development follows a complaint filed against Rahul Gandhi regarding his statement made on January 15, 2025. Speaking at the inauguration of the Congress’s new headquarters, ‘Indira Bhawan,’ Rahul Gandhi asserted that the opposition was not merely up against the BJP and RSS but the entire Indian state, alleging that institutions had been compromised under the current government.
Advocate Sachin Goyal, speaking to ANI, confirmed that the court accepted the complaint and issued the notice. The complaint was initially filed by Simran Gupta in the special MP/MLA court, seeking an FIR against Rahul Gandhi. However, the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) dismissed the case on jurisdictional grounds. Subsequently, a revision petition was filed, leading to the District Judge Court summoning Rahul Gandhi.
Rahul Gandhi’s remarks have sparked controversy, with the ruling BJP strongly criticizing him. His statement suggested that democratic institutions, including the media and judiciary, were no longer functioning independently. “Our ideology, like the RSS ideology, is thousands of years old, and it has been fighting against theirs for just as long. Do not think we are fighting a fair fight. If you believe that we are only up against a political entity like the BJP or RSS, you have not understood what is happening. The BJP and RSS have captured every single institution in this country. We are now fighting not just them but the Indian state itself,” Gandhi had said.
His comments, which imply a broader struggle against the government machinery, have led to legal action. While Congress leaders defend the statement as a critique of the current administration, BJP leaders have accused Rahul Gandhi of undermining national institutions and democracy.
The legal proceedings are expected to be closely watched as they could have significant political ramifications. With elections approaching, this case adds another layer to the ongoing political battle between the opposition and the ruling party. The Congress party has yet to officially respond to the court’s notice, but sources suggest that Rahul Gandhi’s legal team is preparing to challenge the summons.
As the April 4 deadline approaches, all eyes will be on how this legal battle unfolds and its potential impact on the political landscape.
