Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani hosted a meeting with Secretary-General of the Arab League Ahmed Aboul Gheit in his office on Wednesday. The meeting, part of Aboul Gheit’s current visit to Qatar, centered on addressing the escalating situation in the Gaza Strip and the occupied Palestinian territories, and fostering collaborative efforts within the Arab world.
During the discussions, both leaders delved into the latest developments in the Gaza Strip, expressing mutual concern over the unfolding violence and its potential impact on regional and global stability. The Qatari Prime Minister reiterated Qatar’s deep-seated apprehension regarding the growing unrest in the region.
Emphasizing the importance of concerted Arab action, the Qatari leader stressed the imperative of tackling the underlying causes behind the escalating tensions. He underscored the necessity of achieving a just, comprehensive, and sustainable resolution to the Palestinian issue, which remains central to restoring peace and stability in the region.
In response, Secretary-General Aboul Gheit commended Qatar’s unwavering support for both regional and international endeavors aimed at promoting security and stability in the Middle East.
The Qatari Prime Minister earlier informed that they have received a reply from the Hamas movement regarding the general framework of the agreement with regard to hostages, pointing out that the reply includes some comments, but in general it is positive.
In a joint press conference with United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Tuesday, the Qatari leader stated that due to the sensitivity of this stage, details cannot be discussed, but this response calls for optimism, and the response has been delivered to the Israeli side.
