In a significant development in the Pune Porsche hit-and-run case, the 17-year-old boy accused of the tragic incident has petitioned the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) for the return of his seized passport and luxury car. The request was made by the minor’s defense lawyer, Prashant Patil, who argues that there is no further need to retain the items as part of the ongoing investigation.
The accused teenager, whose name has not been disclosed due to his age, was allegedly driving the Porsche while intoxicated on May 19. The vehicle collided with a motorcycle, resulting in the deaths of two IT engineers, Aneesh Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta. Following the fatal accident, the Pune Police Crime Branch placed the boy in a juvenile correctional facility.
According to officials, the defense attorney submitted an application to the JJB seeking the return of the minor’s passport and the Porsche. The application for the passport was filed on Wednesday, and the request for the return of the car had been made earlier in June. Patil contends that since the accused has been granted bail and has fulfilled the court’s requirement of submitting a 300-word essay, there should be no reason to withhold the vehicle any longer.
The Porsche, which was involved in the accident, is currently in police custody. The defense has argued that retaining the car is unnecessary if there are no additional investigations pending related to the vehicle. The JJB was initially scheduled to make a decision on the matter on Wednesday. However, due to an adjournment, a final verdict is now expected on September 26.
Before reaching a decision, the Juvenile Justice Board is likely to seek further input from the police to ensure that all investigative aspects have been appropriately addressed. The case has drawn significant attention due to the high-profile nature of the accident and the involvement of a luxury vehicle. As the investigation continues, the legal proceedings will determine the future handling of the seized items.
