In a previous meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, PM Modi expressed his satisfaction with their encounter on the sidelines of the COP 28 Summit earlier on Friday.
Prime Minister Modi’s participation in COP 28 holds great significance as he addressed the impact of climate change on countries in the Global South. He stressed the importance of climate finance and technology in fulfilling the aspirations of these nations.
COP 28, hosted by the UAE in Dubai from November 28 to December 12, features the World Climate Action Summit as its high-level segment. During the summit, the Prime Minister highlighted that while countries in the Global South, including India, have played a smaller role in causing climate change, they are disproportionately affected by its consequences.
“We all know that countries in the Global South, including India, have had less of a role to play in climate change. But the impact of climate change on them is immense. Despite a lack of resources, these countries are committed to climate action,” Prime Minister Modi emphasized during the COP 28 Presidency’s session on Transforming Climate Finance.
