In a bid to uplift the skilled artisans and craftspeople of India, the PM Vishwakarma Scheme was unveiled on September 17, 2023. This initiative is tailored to cater to artisans engaged in traditional trades across 18 disciplines, aiming to provide them with the necessary support in a rapidly evolving market landscape while safeguarding India’s rich cultural heritage.

Scheme Data Overview :
Skill Upgradation: Artisans undergo rigorous training, encompassing basic training sessions lasting 5-7 days, followed by advanced training programs spanning 15 days or more, with a daily stipend of Rs. 500.
Toolkit Incentive: At the outset of their training journey, artisans receive toolkit incentives of up to Rs. 15,000 through e-vouchers, empowering them to acquire essential tools and equipment necessary for their craft.
Credit Support: The scheme offers collateral-free ‘Enterprise Development Loans’ of up to Rs. 3 lakh, disbursed in two tranches. Beneficiaries who complete basic training can avail the first tranche of Rs. 1 lakh, with a concessional interest rate of 5% and a government subvention of 8%.

Financial Outlay: With a substantial budget allocation of Rs. 13,000 crore spanning from FY 2023-24 to FY 2027-28, the scheme exemplifies the government’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of artisans.
