In a significant development aimed at bolstering socio-economic welfare among Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs), Prime Minister Narendra Modi has initiated the disbursement of the first installment to 1 lakh beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Gramin (PMAY-G) under the Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM-JANMAN). This milestone event, conducted on January 15, 2024, signifies a crucial step towards advancing the living standards of tribal communities across the nation.
Budget Allocation and Strategic Focus
The PM-JANMAN initiative, backed by a substantial budget of approximately Rs 24,000 crore, targets 11 critical interventions spanning 9 Ministries. Its overarching goal is to enhance the socio-economic conditions of PVTGs by saturating their households and habitations with essential amenities. These interventions encompass crucial areas such as safe housing, clean drinking water, sanitation, education, health and nutrition, electricity, road and telecom connectivity, as well as sustainable livelihood opportunities.
Financial Commitment and Outreach
Underlining the government’s commitment to tribal welfare, a staggering sum exceeding Rs 23,000 crore has been earmarked for the PM-JANMAN mega campaign. This significant financial investment underscores the administration’s resolve to uplift the marginalized sections of society and foster inclusive development.
First Instalment Disbursement and Scheme Expansion
The inaugural disbursement, amounting to Rs 540 crore, marks the commencement of financial aid to beneficiaries under the PMAY-G scheme. This initial tranche serves as a testament to the government’s dedication to providing dignified housing solutions to tribal communities, thereby laying the groundwork for their socio-economic empowerment.
Expanded Healthcare Access
In tandem with housing assistance, the PM-JANMAN initiative also prioritizes healthcare accessibility for tribal populations. During the JANMAN Abhiyan, an additional 100 Ayushman Cards were issued, augmenting the reach of healthcare services to underserved tribal regions.
The release of the first installment under PM-JANMAN signifies a significant stride towards realizing the government’s vision of inclusive growth and empowerment for all sections of society, particularly the vulnerable tribal communities. With a robust financial commitment and strategic focus on holistic development, the initiative heralds a new era of progress and prosperity for India’s tribal population.
