Prime Minister Narendra Modi today underscored India’s rising stature on the global stage, asserting that “the world listens when India speaks.” Addressing a large gathering of the Indian diaspora in New York, PM Narendra Modi highlighted India’s role as a strong voice for the Global South, noting that recent statements from India have resonated deeply across the world. He referenced his previous assertion that “this is not the era of war,” which he said was widely understood in its severity by international audiences.
This vision of global cooperation was exemplified by the Voice of Global South Summit, hosted by India in January 2023, which brought together leaders from developing nations to discuss shared challenges and opportunities. The summit, themed “Unity of Voice, Unity of Purpose,” reinforced India’s commitment to fostering collaboration among these nations and showcased its emerging leadership role.
PM Narendra Modi articulated that for India, true power is defined by principles: “knowledge is for sharing, wealth is for caring, power is for protecting.” He emphasized that India is no longer a nation that merely follows; instead, it is leading and innovating, particularly in digital public infrastructure (DPI), a concept India has introduced to the world.
Reflecting on India’s rapid advancements, the Prime Minister noted that the country’s 5G market has now surpassed that of the United States in just two years, with initiatives like ‘Made in India’ 6G already underway. “Now, India is a land of opportunities,” he stated, adding that the country is no longer waiting for opportunities to arise but actively creating them.
Highlighting the significant changes over the past decade, PM Narendra Modi mentioned that India has lifted 250 million people out of poverty, attributing this success to a shift in mindset and a focus on empowering the underprivileged. He proudly noted that India has ascended from the 10th to the 5th largest economy in the world and expressed aspirations for India to soon become the 3rd largest economy.
Addressing India’s demographic dividend, PM Narendra Modi remarked that the nation is among the youngest globally, filled with energy and ambition. He celebrated the recent achievements of Indian chess players, who secured gold in the Chess Olympiad for both men and women, a historic first in a century. He characterized the ongoing progress as a dual force, referring to AI as both an acronym for “Aspirational India” and a driving force behind India’s growth.
In setting goals for “PM Narendra Modi 3.0,” the Prime Minister introduced the acronym ‘PUSHP’ to encapsulate his vision: P for Progressive Bharat, U for Unstoppable Bharat, S for Spiritual Bharat, H for Humanity, and P for Prosperous Bharat. He stated, “We will build Viksit Bharat, combining the five petals of PUSHP.”
Addressing global conflicts and tensions, PM Narendra Modi described 2024 as a pivotal year. He contrasted the turmoil in some countries with the celebration of democracy in others. He reiterated that India’s focus is not merely on expanding its presence in the world but rather on enhancing its impact. “We don’t want our supremacy in the world, but to increase cooperation for global prosperity,” he asserted.
PM Narendra Modi emphasized the collaborative spirit shared between India and the United States, particularly in the context of celebrating democracy.
