PM Narendra Modi to inaugurate and lay foundation stones for ₹16,450 crore projects in Kerala and Tamil Nadu during visit to Ernakulam and Tiruchirappalli

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Kerala and Tamil Nadu today to inaugurate and lay the foundation stones for development projects worth approximately ₹16,450 crore across the two states. The visit includes a series of public events, infrastructure inaugurations and political gatherings aimed at boosting development initiatives and strengthening the National Democratic Alliance’s presence in the southern region. Major projects covering sectors such as energy, highways, railways and rural infrastructure will be dedicated to the public during the visit.

The Prime Minister’s first stop will be in Ernakulam, Kerala, where projects worth around ₹10,800 crore will be launched. During the visit, Modi will participate in the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the Akhil Kerala Dheevara Sabha, an organization representing the interests and welfare of fishermen in the state. The Prime Minister is expected to highlight the importance of coastal communities and the government’s initiatives for their development and livelihood support.

Later in the afternoon, around 1:30 pm, the Prime Minister will formally dedicate several major development projects to the nation. These initiatives include infrastructure improvements in the energy sector, expansion of highway networks, upgrades to railway facilities and strengthening of rural infrastructure. Government officials said the projects are designed to improve connectivity, generate employment opportunities and accelerate economic growth in the region.

Following the inauguration of these projects, the Prime Minister will address a National Democratic Alliance rally in Ernakulam at approximately 2:15 pm. The rally is expected to focus on development policies and governance initiatives undertaken by the central government. Party leaders believe the event will also strengthen the alliance’s outreach among voters in Kerala, where the NDA has been attempting to expand its political influence.

Ahead of the visit, Prime Minister Modi shared a message on the social media platform X praising the work of the Akhil Kerala Dheevara Sabha. He described the organization’s contribution to the welfare of fishermen as commendable and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving the livelihoods of coastal communities. In his message, Modi emphasized that the NDA’s development-oriented governance model offers a strong alternative to what he described as the misgovernance of both the Left Democratic Front and the United Democratic Front in Kerala.

The Prime Minister also said that the NDA would focus on policies aimed at development, employment and opportunities for young people in the state. According to him, the alliance intends to address the aspirations of Kerala’s youth through initiatives that promote economic growth, technological innovation and infrastructure expansion.

After completing his programs in Kerala, the Prime Minister will travel to Tiruchirappalli in Tamil Nadu later in the evening. At around 5:45 pm, he will inaugurate and lay the foundation stones for projects worth approximately ₹5,650 crore in the state. These projects are expected to focus on improving transportation infrastructure, strengthening urban facilities and supporting regional economic development.

During the Tiruchirappalli visit, Modi will also address a large public gathering where he is expected to highlight the central government’s development initiatives in Tamil Nadu. The speech is likely to emphasize infrastructure investments, economic reforms and welfare schemes implemented by the government.

The Prime Minister’s visit to Tamil Nadu comes shortly after the Union Cabinet approved granting international airport status to Madurai Airport. The decision is expected to significantly enhance the region’s connectivity and boost economic development in southern Tamil Nadu. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that the upgrade reflects the aspirations of people in the region and would transform the development prospects of Madurai.

According to Vaishnaw, Chennai, Coimbatore and Madurai are among the three largest and most significant cities in Tamil Nadu. Residents and business communities in Madurai have long demanded international airport status in order to improve connectivity with global destinations. The government believes that upgrading the airport will encourage tourism, facilitate trade and attract investment to the region.

Prime Minister Modi also commented on the political situation in Tamil Nadu ahead of his visit. In another post on social media, he said that the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam was concerned about the growing popularity of the NDA in the state. Modi argued that people in Tamil Nadu had witnessed what he described as unfulfilled promises and governance challenges under the DMK government.

According to the Prime Minister, increasing public support for the NDA reflects the desire among voters for development-focused governance and economic progress. He said that the alliance’s agenda emphasizes growth, infrastructure development and improved opportunities for citizens.

Political observers note that Modi’s visit to both Kerala and Tamil Nadu carries political significance as well as developmental importance. The southern states have become key battlegrounds for national political parties seeking to expand their influence. By launching major infrastructure projects and engaging directly with local communities, the government aims to highlight its development agenda in the region.

The projects being inaugurated during the visit are expected to contribute to improved connectivity, economic growth and employment generation. Infrastructure investments in sectors such as highways, energy and railways are seen as crucial for supporting long-term regional development and strengthening the country’s transportation networks.

As the Prime Minister addresses public gatherings in both states, the visit is likely to reinforce the government’s emphasis on development initiatives and governance reforms while also shaping the political narrative in southern India.
