Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inject new momentum into the infrastructure and development sectors of Bihar and West Bengal with the launch of projects worth over Rs 12,000 crore during his visit to both states today. The initiatives, which focus on connectivity, rural livelihoods, and digital innovation, are expected to significantly enhance employment opportunities while improving the quality of life for residents in these regions.
Infrastructure Push Across Rail, Road, and Digital Sectors
In Bihar, where projects worth over Rs 7,200 crore are planned, PM Modi will inaugurate and lay the foundation stones for multiple rail, road, IT, fisheries, and rural development initiatives during a public gathering in Motihari. Among the major rail initiatives, the Prime Minister will flag off four Amrit Bharat Express trains, connecting Patna, Motihari, Darbhanga, and Malda Town with major cities like Delhi and Lucknow, enhancing mobility for residents and supporting economic activities in the state.
Key railway projects include the commissioning of automatic signalling on the Samastipur-Bachhwara line and the doubling of the Darbhanga-Thalwara and Samastipur-Rambhadrapur rail sections, a combined investment of Rs 580 crore, aimed at easing congestion and improving travel times for passengers. Additionally, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for a Vande Bharat maintenance facility at Patliputra and the doubling of the Darbhanga-Narkatiaganj rail line, with an investment of Rs 4,080 crore, to enhance rail infrastructure in Bihar.
Road infrastructure will also receive a significant boost with the launch of the four-laning of the Ara bypass and Parariya-Mohania section of NH-319, amounting to Rs 820 crore, enhancing connectivity to the Delhi-Kolkata Golden Quadrilateral and facilitating smoother movement of goods and people across the region.
To strengthen Bihar’s digital economy, PM Modi will inaugurate a Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) facility in Darbhanga and an incubation centre in Patna, designed to encourage startups and promote IT/ITES exports from the region, thereby providing a fillip to employment and technological advancement in the state.
Under the PM Matsya Sampada Yojana, PM Modi will also launch fisheries infrastructure projects, including hatcheries, aquaculture units, and fish feed mills, aiming to improve the fisheries sector and rural livelihoods.
Major Investments for West Bengal’s Oil, Gas, and Pipeline Infrastructure
In West Bengal, the Prime Minister will address a gathering in Durgapur and launch projects worth over Rs 5,000 crore. This includes laying the foundation stone for the Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd (BPCL) City Gas Distribution (CGD) project in Bankura and Purulia districts, worth around Rs 1,950 crore, which aims to enhance oil and gas infrastructure in the state. The project will provide PNG connections to households, commercial establishments, and industrial customers, and will facilitate CNG availability at retail outlets.
Additionally, PM Modi will dedicate to the nation the Durgapur to Kolkata section (132 km) of the Durgapur-Haldia Natural Gas Pipeline and the Bokaro-Dhamra Pipeline, both part of the Pradhan Mantri Urja Ganga (PMUG) Project. This pipeline network is designed to provide cleaner fuel options, strengthen the industrial base in the region, and reduce the carbon footprint, aligning with the government’s broader vision for sustainable energy development in eastern India.
Through these initiatives, the government aims to integrate infrastructure, technology, and sustainable practices while enhancing employment and rural livelihoods across Bihar and West Bengal, reflecting a targeted approach to balanced regional growth.
