Royal Challengers Bengaluru fans who were eagerly awaiting a grand celebration following the team’s historic maiden IPL title victory will now have to adjust their plans. Bengaluru Police have officially called off the much-anticipated open-top bus victory parade, citing logistical and security concerns. Instead, a felicitation ceremony will be held at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, with entry restricted to ticket holders.
Security Concerns Lead to Change in Plans
Originally, the team was expected to travel in a roadshow procession from Vidhana Soudha to M Chinnaswamy Stadium, allowing thousands of fans to cheer for their cricketing heroes. However, the police released a public advisory on Tuesday stating that no public parade would take place. The advisory, issued in both Kannada and English, explained that massive crowds, traffic congestion, and limited parking in the Central Business District made it unfeasible to organize a city-wide celebration.
Instead, the police confirmed that a felicitation ceremony will be hosted at Chinnaswamy Stadium between 5 PM and 6 PM. Access will only be granted to those who possess valid tickets. Commuters have been urged to avoid the area from 3 PM to 8 PM and to make use of public transport, particularly the Metro, for easier navigation around the city during peak hours.
Traffic Restrictions and Parking Arrangements
Authorities have listed several key roads where traffic will be restricted, including Ambedkar Veedi, Cubbon Road, MG Road, Queens Road, and Kasturba Road. These roads are expected to witness significant congestion as fans begin arriving near the stadium.
To manage the expected influx of attendees, designated parking spaces have been arranged at St. Joseph Indian School Ground, UB City Parking Lot, BMTC TTMC Shivajinagar (1st floor), Old KGID Building, and inside Cubbon Park on Kings Road. Bengaluru’s civic and traffic departments are working in coordination to ensure crowd control and smooth vehicular movement.
Earlier in the day, the RCB team departed from Ahmedabad at 10 AM and is expected to land at HAL Airport by 1:30 PM. They are scheduled to meet Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah at Vidhana Soudha around 4 PM before proceeding to the stadium for the felicitation event. Though the lack of a public parade has disappointed many, officials have assured that the celebration inside the stadium will be festive and secure.
