Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to attend the All India Conference of Director Generals/Inspector Generals of Police 2023 at the Rajasthan International Centre, Jaipur, on January 6th-7th, 2024. The three-day conference, taking place from January 5th to 7th, will address a wide array of policing and internal security matters, including Cyber Crime, Technology in Policing, Counter Terrorism challenges, Left Wing Extremism, Prison Reforms, and more.
Key on the conference’s agenda is deliberation on the road map for implementing new criminal laws. Additionally, discussions will focus on futuristic policing and security themes, including challenges posed by emerging technologies such as AI and Deepfake, along with strategies to address them. The conference serves as a platform to identify concrete action points and monitor their progress, with periodic presentations to the Prime Minister, while culminating extensive discussions involving police and intelligence officers from district, state, and national levels on predetermined themes.
It is pertinent to note that, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has shown a keen interest in the annual DGP conference since 2014, participating actively in its proceedings. Unlike previous symbolic appearances, PM Modi engages in open and informal discussions to encourage fresh ideas and perspectives. This year’s conference will also feature free-flowing thematic discussions, providing senior police officials with opportunities to share their insights and recommendations on crucial policing and internal security issues. During the conference, states will present best practices under each theme, fostering mutual learning and knowledge-sharing.
Further, since 2014, Prime Minister Modi has advocated the organization of annual DGP conferences across India, each contributing to the exchange of knowledge and experiences. This year’s conference continues this tradition in Jaipur, featuring the participation of Union Home Minister, National Security Advisor, MOS for Home Affairs, Cabinet Secretary, senior government officials, DGP of States/UTs, and Heads of Central Armed Police Forces and Central Police Organizations, among others.
