Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s recent admission that Indian BrahMos missiles struck key targets inside Pakistan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the Indian Armed Forces for executing a decisive and powerful counter-operation. Speaking in Kanpur, Modi said the strikes left Pakistan in a state of panic and gave their military “sleepless nights,” underscoring India’s strategic capabilities in dealing with cross-border threats.
The remarks came during Modi’s address while inaugurating development projects worth nearly ₹50,000 crore in Uttar Pradesh. Referring to Operation Sindoor, Modi lauded India’s military for their courage and precision, claiming that Indian forces not only crossed the border but also destroyed terror bases deep within Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. He said the Pakistani army was left pleading to stop the escalation.
Sharif Admits Surprise Missile Strike
The statement was a direct reaction to Shehbaz Sharif’s speech in Azerbaijan, where he publicly acknowledged that Indian missiles—including BrahMos—had hit several critical targets in Pakistan on the night of May 9 and the early morning of May 10. Sharif admitted the strikes caught Pakistan off guard, revealing that Islamabad was in the middle of planning a counter-attack when Indian missiles landed.
The Pakistani Prime Minister identified key locations hit by Indian missiles, including the strategic Nur Khan air base near Rawalpindi. According to him, the barrage disrupted their military readiness and forced a reassessment of their response strategy. His disclosure marked a rare moment of public admission regarding the effectiveness of India’s military action.
India’s Response to Provocations
These missile strikes, reportedly part of Operation Sindoor, were launched by India as a retaliatory measure after Pakistan carried out a series of drone and missile attacks on May 7. Prior to that, India had conducted targeted precision strikes against at least nine terrorist training camps inside Pakistan and PoK, including Lashkar-e-Taiba’s headquarters.
The sequence of attacks and counter-attacks highlights the heightened tensions and the swift escalation between the two nuclear-armed neighbours. Modi’s strong messaging reflects India’s intent to project strength and deter further provocations, especially after securing public acknowledgment from Pakistan about the impact of its missile capabilities.
