New Delhi, 22 August (HS): union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Narendra Singh Tomar has said that a large number of people are benefiting from the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY). This scheme is key to the progress of the country.
Tomar tweeted on Tuesday that the Modi government started the PM Jan Dhan Yojana to connect the poor with banking services. Today, more than 50 crore accounts have been opened under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana. In this case, 56 percent of the accounts are of women. Under this scheme, 67 percent of accounts have been opened in rural and semi-urban areas.
It is noteworthy that PMJDY was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his Independence Day address on August 15, 2014, and the scheme was launched on August 28. Pradhan Mantri Jan-Dhan Yojana is a national mission for financial inclusion. Its objective is to provide financial services like banking, savings, deposit accounts, remittances, loans, insurance, pensions, etc. effectively to all.
