The people of Kaimur district are all set to benefit from a major development under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY). The district has been allocated a target of 3,393 homes under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Gramin for the financial year 2024-25. Out of these, 3,133 have already received approval for construction under the scheme. The Rural Development Department is running this housing project as a campaign, aiming to complete the process efficiently. As a result, Kaimur district has secured the top position in the state in terms of housing construction under the PMAY scheme. To date, 1,385 houses have been successfully completed across all the blocks of the district.
Under this housing scheme, beneficiaries are provided with financial assistance in three installments. The first installment is provided when the land is selected for the construction of the house, the second installment is provided when the construction begins, and the third installment is paid after the roof is completed. The process is being strictly monitored to ensure timely construction of the houses.
According to the Management Information System officer, Sudhir Kumar Pandey, the Deputy Development Commissioner, Gyan Prakash, has directed all the block development officers and housing assistants to complete the housing campaign within 100 days. He has also instructed officials to share the daily location updates and photos of the construction sites in the district’s WhatsApp group. In addition, regular weekly reviews of the housing plan are being conducted by the Deputy Development Commissioner to ensure the timely completion of the project.
To monitor the progress and payments, a war room has been set up in the district and at each block. This will track the disbursement of funds and the completion of homes. Daily geo-tagging and reports related to the construction progress are being gathered from the blocks. Housing assistants and supervisors are in constant contact with the beneficiaries to ensure the smooth implementation of the project.
The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana is a central government initiative aimed at providing permanent homes to the homeless and underprivileged citizens of India. It is designed to offer financial assistance for the construction of durable homes with all necessary amenities for those living in makeshift or temporary houses. This initiative benefits rural citizens under PMAY-Gramin and urban citizens under PMAY-Urban.
The amount of financial assistance varies according to the region. Beneficiaries in plain areas receive ₹1,20,000, while those in hilly or difficult terrains receive ₹1,30,000 to support the construction of their homes. This scheme continues to be a ray of hope for millions across the country.
