In a sensational IPL match at the Eden Gardens Stadium, Punjab Kings (PBKS) secured a remarkable 8-wicket victory over Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), setting a new milestone in T20 cricket history. The match witnessed a record-breaking run chase as PBKS successfully pursued the highest-ever total in T20 cricket.
Responding to a resounding victory, PBKS’s official social media handle took to ‘X’ to retweet a viral tweet from Bollywood superstar Salman Khan, dated back to 2014. In the tweet, Salman had made a sly inquiry about Preity Zinta’s team’s performance during the IPL qualifier. Despite losing to KKR in 2014, PBKS managed to reach the summit clash after defeating Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the eliminator round.
The match on Friday witnessed a gripping battle as PBKS avenged their past defeat against KKR with a dominating performance. Jonny Bairstow emerged as the hero with a spectacular century, scoring 108 runs off just 49 balls. Supported by Shashank Singh’s aggressive batting, PBKS chased down the mammoth target with 8 balls to spare, showcasing a ruthless display of batting prowess.
Earlier, KKR’s opening pair of Sunil Narine and Phil Salt provided a blistering start with a formidable 138-run partnership. Despite notable contributions from Shreyas Iyer and Andre Russell, KKR’s bowlers struggled to defend their imposing total of 262 runs.
The match witnessed a total of 523 runs scored across both innings, with a staggering 42 sixes hit, marking a new high in T20 cricket. PBKS’s triumph serves as a testament to their resilience and determination in the ongoing IPL 2024 season.
