Neeraj Chopra, the reigning Olympic and world javelin champion, is gearing up for his season debut at the Doha Diamond League 2024, slated for Friday at the Qatar Sports Club. Joining him in the spotlight is fellow Indian athlete Kishore Jena, marking his Diamond League debut.
Both athletes have already secured Paris Olympic quotas following their notable performances at the 203 Hangzhou Asian Games. Kishore Jena clinched silver, while Neeraj Chopra secured gold, making history as the only Indian athlete to claim a Doha Diamond League title, achieved in Zurich back in 2022. Despite losing the title last year to Czech Republic’s Jakub Vadlejch, Neeraj Chopra remains a formidable force. Jakub Vadlejch, who bagged silver at Tokyo 2020, is also part of this year’s entry list.
Neeraj Chopra aims to surpass the 90m barrier, expressing confidence in his preparation. “I’ve been training well, I’ve also had some good throwing sessions coming into this event,” he stated. However, he acknowledges the challenge posed by competitors like Jakub Vadlejch, Anderson Peters, and Julius Yego, all boasting impressive personal bests.
The Doha Diamond League 2024 thriller featuring Neeraj Chopra and Kishore Jena is scheduled for Friday, May 10, starting at 10:12 PM IST at the Qatar Sports Club. Indian viewers can catch the live broadcast on the Sports18 network, while streaming will be available on JioCinema.
