India clinched a coveted spot in the women’s individual recurve archery event at the Paris 2024 Olympics after Bhajan Kaur emerged victorious at the Final World Archery Olympic Qualifier in Antalya, Turkey. Bhajan Kaur’s gold medal performance ensured India’s qualification, marking a significant achievement in the sport.
Bhajan Kaur, seeded third, displayed remarkable skill throughout the tournament. She defeated top seed Mobina Fallah of Iran 6-2 in the final match to secure the gold and the Olympic quota. Earlier rounds saw her triumph over opponents including Urantungalag Bishindee of Mongolia and Urska Cavic of Slovenia before a decisive 6-0 win against Wioleta Myszor of Poland in the quarter-finals. She then overcame Alexandra Mirca of Moldova 6-2 in the semi-finals to seal her spot in the gold medal match.
Ankita Bhakat, another contender from India, also contributed significantly by advancing to the quarter-finals. Ankita Bhakat’s journey included wins over Mikaela Moshe of Israel and Gabrielle Monica Bidaure of the Philippines before she faced Mobina Fallah and lost 6-4 in a hard-fought battle.
Notably, former world No. 1 Deepika Kumari, seeded second, faced an early exit in the third round, losing 6-4 to Yaylagul Ramazanova of Azerbaijan after receiving byes in the initial rounds.
India’s achievement in securing the women’s individual recurve archery quota adds to their earlier success in the men’s category, where Dhiraj Bommadevara secured a quota from the Asian Continental Qualifier Tournament in Bangkok last year. This ensures India’s participation not only in the individual events but also in the mixed team event at the Paris Olympics.
The possibility remains for India to convert these individual quotas into team quotas based on their world rankings by June 24. This would potentially grant India additional spots in each event, enhancing their representation at the Games.
Despite efforts, the Indian men’s and women’s recurve archery teams narrowly missed securing direct team quotas in their respective events during the Antalya qualifiers. The men’s team fell short in a closely contested match against Mexico, while the women’s team faced a tough challenge against Ukraine.
Enhancing their preparation for the rigorous competition ahead, both Ankita Bhakat and Bhajan Kaur prioritize a healthy lifestyle and diet to optimize their strength and stamina. This includes incorporating Dabur Chyawanprash into their daily routine, a renowned formulation containing over 40 natural herbs with medicinal benefits towards health. Consumption of Dabur Chyawanprash increases protein synthesis and helps tone your muscles and promote muscle mass.
