Islamabad, 22 Aug : Despite the fact that Pakistan’s President did not ratify two bills, the government has enacted the two laws. The President has sacked his secretary on the issue. The two bills relating to amendments in Official Secrecy Act and Pakistani Military Act were passed by the Senate and submitted for ratification by President Arif Alvi. The President has charged his staff of cheating him.
Alvi said that the Khuda (Almighty) is a witness that he did not sign the two bills, as he was not convinced with the proposed amendments. The staff was instructed to refer back to the proposed amendment bills within the specified time without his signature. The staff allowed the period to lapse and allowed the amendments to be effective. He alleged that his staff cheated him and dismissed his secretary Waqar Ahmad.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) demanded the President’s resignation and called him not fit to hold the position.
PPP_Vice-president Shery Rahman raised questions about the capability of Alvi as the President. He demanded that Alvi should resign immediately. PML-N leader and former Finance Minister Ishaq Daar also demanded the resignation of Alvi on moral grounds, as he failed to control his office staff.
