Gadag (Karnataka) [India], April 11 (ANI): Former chief minister and Gadag-Haveri Lok Sabha constituency BJP candidate, Basavaraj Bommai on Thursday said that even after a decade in power, 75 per cent of the country’s population still supports Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

He further added that there has been a pro-Modi wave across the country.

Addressing a campaign in several villages in Ron Taluk on Thursday, he said, “The election was not about the state but the development and future of the nation. Modi has ruled the country for a decade but still, there has been a wave in his favour. Over 75 per cent of the population has been supporting him and the rest of them are opposed to him.”

He further said the Modi government has always responded in times of distress, and his popularity remains high after ten years.

“When Modi’s mother died, he took a two-hour break to complete the rituals and again got back to work. The PM performs the pada puja of the ‘Safai Karmachari’ (sanitation worker). Nearly 15 crore people had been lifted from “Below Poverty Line” (BPL). Piped water has been provided to every house. Achieving impossible things has been the hallmark of Modi. The Modi government responded whenever the people were in distress. The PM’s popularity has not come down, even after ten years,” he said.

Karnataka, which has 28 Lok Sabha seats, will vote in two phases on April 26 and May 7.

Voting in the Gadag-Haveri Lok Sabha constituency will be held on May 7.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the Congress and JD-S fought together against the BJP and the combine was decimated. The BJP had won a record 25 seats; Congress and JD-S won just one seat each. In the 2014 Lok Sabha election, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won 17 seats, while the Indian National Congress (INC) won 9, and the Janata Dal (Secular) two seats.

The Lok Sabha elections 2024 will be held in seven phases, starting on April 19. The counting of votes is on June 4. (ANI)
