Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh, the newly appointed Chief of Air Staff, has emphasized the need for the Indian Air Force (IAF) to enhance its capabilities and move toward complete self-reliance in the face of a rapidly changing global security environment. Speaking on Tuesday during the 92nd Annual Day celebrations of the IAF at the Air Force Station in Tambaram, Chennai, Amar Preet Singh highlighted the importance of innovation and technological advancement for the future readiness of the force.
Amar Preet Singh acknowledged the ongoing global conflicts, which have underscored the necessity for a robust and versatile Air Force capable of responding to evolving threats. He stressed the need for the IAF to be prepared to address any contingency that could challenge India’s national security and interests.
“The current conflicts around the world clearly demonstrate the requirement to have a strong and capable Air Force,” he said during his address. “There is a need for us to constantly realign ourselves to meet present and future challenges, ensuring that the IAF remains ready to tackle any situation that may arise.”
Amar Preet Singh underscored that adopting cutting-edge technologies would be critical for the IAF in staying ahead in today’s multi-domain operational environment. He called for “innovative and out-of-the-box thinking” to shape the force’s strategic direction and improve its operational effectiveness.
The Air Chief Marshal’s remarks came after he reviewed the ceremonial parade at the Air Force Station in Tambaram, marking the IAF’s 92nd anniversary. The celebrations are part of a broader effort to commemorate the achievements of the Indian Air Force and to highlight its role in safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty.
In his speech, Amar Preet Singh also touched upon the goal of making the IAF a fully self-reliant force. He pointed out that in order to achieve this, the force must prioritize indigenous production and the adoption of advanced technologies developed within the country. This aligns with the government’s vision of “Aatmanirbhar Bharat” (self-reliant India), which seeks to reduce dependency on foreign imports and boost domestic defense capabilities.
Amar Preet Singh’s call for a more capable and self-sufficient Air Force comes at a time when India is investing heavily in modernizing its defense forces. The IAF has been steadily upgrading its fleet with modern fighter jets, transport aircraft, and missile systems, while also expanding its operational and strategic capabilities.
As the IAF marks its 92nd year, the new leadership’s focus on innovation, self-reliance, and technological superiority signals a forward-looking approach to ensuring that the Indian Air Force remains a dominant and resilient force in the years to come.
