Nepal’s Foreign Secretary, Sewa Lamsal, is currently in India to participate in the 8th Asia Economic Dialogue 2024, jointly convened by the Ministry of External Affairs and Pune International Centre in Pune.
This visit marks Lamsal’s first official trip to India since assuming her role, signifying the importance both nations place on strengthening cooperation. During her engagements, she has held crucial meetings aimed at enhancing bilateral relations.
On her first day, Lamsal met with Indian External Affairs Minister, Dr. S. Jaishankar, where discussions focused on further bolstering Nepal-India ties. Dr. Jaishankar expressed satisfaction with the progress made in various aspects of bilateral relations.
Dr. Jaishankar took to social media to express his pleasure in welcoming Foreign Secretary Lamsal, he said, “Happy to receive Foreign Secretary @sewa_lamsal of Nepal today in Delhi. Pleased to hear from her about progress in various aspects of our bilateral relations.”
Further, apart from holding a meeting with EAM, the Nepali Foreign Secretary also held talks with Indian Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra to review the extensive cooperation between the two countries. Their discussions also followed up on the outcomes of the recent 7th India-Nepal Joint Commission Meeting in Kathmandu, chaired by Dr. Jaishankar and Nepal’s Foreign Minister, N. P. Saud.
Significantly, Lamsal’s visit highlights the warm and cordial bilateral relations shared between India and Nepal, and the bonhomie shared among two historical partners. Speaking of the significance of the high-level visit, the Ministry of External Affairs said, “The visit is in keeping with the tradition of regular high-level exchanges between the two countries and the priority India attaches to its relations with Nepal under its ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy, and provides an opportunity to further advance our bilateral ties.”
