An eighteen-year-old medical aspirant tragically took her own life in Kota, jumping from the ninth floor of a building just a day after the NEET-UG results were announced, the police reported on Thursday.
The victim, Bagisha Tiwari, lived with her mother and brother on the fifth floor of a multi-storey building. She allegedly committed suicide on Wednesday, succumbing to her injuries at a private hospital shortly after being rushed there.
Tiwari, originally from Reva district in Madhya Pradesh, had been preparing for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (UG) in a coaching institute in Kota. Her brother, also a student, was preparing for the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE).
This incident marks the tenth suspected suicide case among students in Kota since the beginning of the year. Last year, the city reported 26 suspected suicides among coaching students, the highest in recent years.
According to the Circle Inspector at Jawahar Nagar Police Station, Harinarayan Sharma, Tiwari jumped from the ninth-floor balcony despite efforts from a woman to intervene. She was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.
The body has been kept at the mortuary of Maharao Bhim Singh (MBS) Hospital for post-mortem, pending the arrival of Tiwari’s father, who has been informed about the incident.
While Tiwari had appeared for the NEET-UG exam, the exact reason behind her tragic decision is yet to be determined, Sharma added.
