Prime Minister Narendra Modi has begun a significant four-state visit covering Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, and virtually Sikkim, aimed at inaugurating and laying foundations for numerous key infrastructure and development projects. This two-day tour highlights the government’s focus on improving connectivity, energy security, urban infrastructure, and social welfare, underscoring Narendra Modi’s commitment to inclusive growth and regional progress. From new airport terminals and metro expansions to power plants and city gas distribution networks, the PM’s agenda is packed with projects that will impact millions and drive economic development in these states.
Expanding Infrastructure and Energy in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh
In Bihar, Narendra Modi inaugurated the new terminal at Patna airport, capable of handling one crore passengers annually, reflecting the state’s growing importance as a transport hub. He also laid the foundation for the Bihta airport civil enclave, which will support educational institutions such as IIT Patna and planned NIT campuses. The PM announced major power projects including the ₹29,930 crore Nabinagar Super Thermal Power Plant Stage-II, a key initiative for energy security and industrial growth in Bihar and eastern India. Additionally, Modi launched road and rail projects such as highway expansions and a new railway line between Son Nagar and Mohammad Ganj, improving regional connectivity and trade routes.
In Uttar Pradesh, Narendra Modi’s focus was on expanding the Kanpur metro with new stations, including underground stops to ease city commuting. He inaugurated the 660 MW extension of the Panki Thermal Power Project and new units at the Ghatampur Thermal Power Project, boosting power generation capacity. Key infrastructure projects like rail over bridges, a new sewage treatment plant for water conservation, and road improvements for industrial and defense corridors in Kanpur Nagar were also launched. These initiatives are expected to facilitate smoother transport of coal and oil and enhance urban infrastructure.
Clean Energy and Urban Development in West Bengal and Sikkim
The Prime Minister’s visit to West Bengal saw the launch of a ₹1,010 crore city gas distribution project, which will provide piped natural gas to over 2.5 lakh households and establish 19 CNG stations, promoting cleaner fuel and generating employment.
Although Narendra Modi could not physically visit Sikkim due to weather conditions, he participated virtually in the 50th anniversary celebrations of the state, unveiling projects such as a 500-bed hospital, a passenger ropeway, and a statue of Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The celebrations emphasized the state’s development in harmony with its cultural and natural heritage.
Narendra Modi’s tour reflects a strategic push toward infrastructural modernization, energy security, and sustainable growth across these key states.
