Nagpur, 9 January : Maharashtra Government has decided to hire bus drivers on contract basis. In the initial phase about 400 drivers will be hired, to facilitate transport services of the State Transport Buses.
Nagpur Bus Deport recruited ten drivers on Sunday. The buses on Chandrapur, Bhandara, Yavatmal and Bhandara routes will be operated with their help.
The decision was taken following strike of MSRTC employees, which disrupted public transport for the last over two months. Although some employees have joined duties, a large number of them are firm on their demand of merges of MSRTC with the State Government.
Maharashtra Transport Minister Anil Parab had categorically stated that those who have not joined duties after the hike in their salaries were offered, may face retrenchment.
Nagpur Depot hired drivers through SKK Security and Manpower Agency. The recruitment drive is underway at Nagpur. More buses are likely to star plying soon.
Starting MSRTC buses will be a great relief to the commuters, as private transport operators are exploiting the situation by levying hefty charges.
