Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami achieved a remarkable feat by becoming the latest player to take 200 wickets in all three formats of international cricket. Shami reached this milestone during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) quarterfinal match against Baroda, where he claimed two wickets in his four-over spell, conceding 43 runs. His wickets of Shivalik Sharma and Atit Sheth in the 19th over were crucial, as they helped him complete the rare achievement, placing him among an exclusive list of bowlers who have excelled across all formats of the game.
Shami’s performance in the quarterfinal wasn’t exceptional, but the two wickets he took in T20 cricket marked his 200th in the format. He became the 34th player in the world to achieve this milestone. Shami’s name now sits alongside some of the greatest bowlers in history, as he joins the prestigious club of players who have 200 wickets in T20, List A, and First-Class cricket. Apart from Shami, only a few Indian pacers, including Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah, are part of this elite list. Other notable Indian bowlers who have achieved such feats include Ravichandran Ashwin, Piyush Chawla, Harbhajan Singh, Amit Mishra, and Ravindra Jadeja.
Across the globe, only three bowlers have taken over 300 wickets in all formats: South Africa’s Imran Tahir (784 First-Class, 369 List A, 526 T20 wickets), Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan (355 First-Class, 400 List A, 492 T20 wickets), and England’s Adil Rashid (512 First-Class, 350 List A, 354 T20 wickets). These players stand as the pinnacle of bowling across all formats, and Shami’s achievement further solidifies his place in the cricketing world.
In the match itself, Baroda emerged victorious by 41 runs, with strong performances from Hardik Pandya and Lukman Meriwala, who both took three wickets each. Baroda posted an impressive total of 272 runs in 20 overs after opting to bat first. In response, Bengal was bowled out for just 131 runs in 18 overs. With this win, Baroda advanced to the SMAT quarterfinals, continuing their journey in the prestigious domestic T20 competition.
